IoT Anywhere: IoT Connections Set to Outnumber Smartphones by 5 to 1
Today, a new free report by Beecham Research – IoT Anywhere: Wireless Data Wherever You Need It – confirms the worldwide IoT connections growth rate at 17.5% per annum over the period 2022-30. By that time, there are expected to be over 48 billion connected IoT devices worldwide, using several different connectivity technologies. To put that into perspective, there are currently twice as many IoT connections worldwide than number of smartphones in use, and this will increase to over 5 times by 2030.
The report shows regional growth rates varying widely. For example, while China’s IoT market is now growing at a rate of 15.4% annually, India and South Asia’s market is growing at 28.9% annually – almost double the rate. Although India is a much smaller market than China, this illustrates a wider trend of less developed markets now beginning to catch up at a fast rate.
The report shows that the success of IoT is driven by the increasing need for IoT to be available anywhere. The choices businesses need to make about which connectivity type to use for different situations is getting more complex over time. Not only that, these decisions need to be made much faster to get new products and services to market quickly in this rapidly-developing market.
The report is therefore aimed at those developing new IoT applications and needing to decide what connectivity is right for their devices and applications. It is packed with research findings from 1-on-1 expert interviews, user survey, heat maps of 24 use cases and connectivity profiles.
